In late 2024 one of our long term customers in the mining equipment needed some large stainless steel rings for a component. Not a large quantity so a simple wooden mould was created.
From this a simple cavity is created in sand and is filled with molten steel
So that’s what comes out. The big lumps are the risers that add big wells of molten steel that ensure that the ring has no voids or shrink points. They are ground off and reused.
So a simple solution and very effective. For large quantities investment in quality moulds becomes crucial. We have the right moulding method for every need. Lost foam moulding techniques produce complex shapes with minimal machining requirements. It’s worth a look on the net just to see what can be achieved.
